The Disability Support Service basically wants to support disabled and chronically ill student in their effort to achieve equality at university and its enviroment.
Clients are advised by disabled counsellors.
This method is closely modelled on the concept of Peer Counseling, i.e. “people concerned advise people concerned”. The counselor’s own disability related experiences and the thus aquired
background knowledge. lead to a better understanding and thus to more efficient results. During individual interviews you will have the opportunity to define problems and develop strategies
to solve them. New perspectives may be found. The counsellors’ main goal is to encourage their clients’ self-determination, so that disabled students eventually will become “self-advocats”
