Student Mentoring-Program for International Students
Arrived in a foreign country without friends, many international students have problems with settling in. Therefore the Newcomers are glad about each orientation aid, which helps to ease their integration.
Now you´re on the spot! When you want to support international students from different countries with your experiences and your knowledge or when you came to Bochum to study, then the Study Buddy program is the place to be!
You are sociable and open minded about different cultures? Then become a Study Buddy and give an international student orientation aid in the "University-Jungle" and ease her or his integration in Bochum. In return you can improve your knowledge in foreign languages, prepare your own stay abroad and make precious friends. You will also get a certificate of attendance.
Wanted: Bochum Buddys
The Study Buddy - Program is based on the idea of a mentorship: We will try to put together two Buddies who match according to categories as spoken languages, interests and hobbies so that the way for making good friends is paved.
The advantages for "Bochumer Buddies":
- Improvement of knowledge in foreign languages
- Preparation of a stay abroad
- International extension of the horizon and of the circle of friends

- Participation in different cultural events
As a "Bochumer Buddy" you could take the following tasks:
- Supporting international students in their everyday life in Bochum
- Giving aid in orientation at university and environment
- Providing support in formal matters (e.g. visits to the authorities)
- Giving leisure time tips or initiating common leisure activities (e.g. Sporty, Partys)
We will support you in each matter, of course! Responsible for organization and carrying out of the mentoring-program is boSKop, the culture office of the Akafoe. In addition to that you will get a leaflet with orientation aids to ease your settling in and to answer your first general questions.

At this point the international Buddies are in demand, too: You are a newcomer in Bochum and you have a lack of the needed orientation in your everyday life in Bochum? Sign up for the Study Buddy program and we will try to ease your settling in.
The advantages for international Buddies:
- A sociable and open minded Bochumer Buddy will aid you regarding your initial difficulties: He will be able to answer questions about studies, everyday life and leisure time and will thereby help you to get along in Bochum.
