The portion size of the served meals depends on the weight recommendations of the German Nutrition Society.
Also in the compilation of menus and individual dishes, the catering facilities of the AKAFÖ follow the guidelines of the German Nutrition Society (www.dge.de). For example, it requires a balanced diet by a high diversity of products and suitable combinations of nutrient-rich and low-energy food. We constantly offer plenty of grain products, potatoes, fresh vegetables and salads, whereas fish is available twice a week. Where possible, our cooks prepare the dishes with just little fat and use low-fat products, also sugar and salt are used in moderate portions. Modern kitchen technologies afford more gentle cooking methods. Meals in the AKAFÖ catering facilities are thus the best basis for a balanced diet and strengthening for the daily student life that often turns out to be stressful.
Since the canteens are only designed for lunch catering for students and university staff, they usually close after the lunch hours. For meals in the later hours, a bistro was set up on the top floor of the canteen of the RUB building where hot meals and snacks are available throughout the semester until 8 PM. For the respective cafeterias in the facilities, individual opening times are calculated, which are determined by the customer flow, thus ensuring economic efficiency to the AKAFÖ.
With so-called combi-steamers, we are able to provide fresh and low-fat food. Also nutrient-gentle treatment of foodstuffs is taken into consideration to ensure that the vitamin and mineral content is kept as high as possible.
At least one vegetarian alternative is daily available in all canteens of the AKAFÖ. As far as other meals are concerned, the meats contained are accurately specified. Our vegan offer is constantly growing. Vegan dishes are specially marked with a sunflower.
Our meals are named “vegan” if following components are not contained:
At any counter, upon request, our staff hands over a folder where all allergens are listed. In addition, you can find information on allergens on the menu pages of our website. Can one meet as a learning group in a canteen?
After the meal times, there are areas in the RUB canteen, the so-called "learning galleries”, which are made available for such purposes. The cafeterias however, should generally be used for eating and not as a working area, in particular the canteen of the University Bochum, which could otherwise be quickly overloaded by such learning groups. What about the dish returning system? Do I have to put my tablet on the conveyor belt or may I use the installed tray trolleys?
The tray trolleys are intended for emergencies, in which the conveyor belt is out of order. Unfortunately, we do not have enough personnel capacities to empty the trolleys on regular basis. We are therefore dependent on the assistance of our guests to put their tablet independently on the dish return conveyor. Hereby, the cutlery is to be taken from the plates and out of the bowls; leftovers and other garbage are to be disposed of beforehand under use of the installed waste bins. Why are not all sorts of rolls always available in the cafeterias?
No personal data is saved on the chip card (Student Card or Canteen Card) by the AKAFÖ. When loading the chip card, the amount is credited 1:1 to the chip card. The amount is deposited on an AKAFÖ account until the balance is reduced on payment. We only store the card number, credit and debit amounts as well as the respective location. The storage time corresponds to the legal requirements on business transactions.
If the card has been lost, the credit amount may be refunded only if the client is in a position to tell us the credit card number. You can receive it only through optional printing of a receipt during the loading process, no data is stored thereof. Due to the card number, if required, the card can be blocked and a possibly still remaining amount can be paid off then. The client is liable for intermediate devaluations, also in case he is not able to tell us the card number after the loss. For data protection reasons, the card number is not imprinted by the RUB.
Open foodstuffs that have once been distributed, are not allowed to be served again to the guest. Therefore, we try our best to optimise our purchase quantities so that nothing is left over, if possible. Our foodstuffs are picked-up by a food waste disposal company for subsequent recycling.
We recieve our food mainly from regional suppliers. These are authorized distributors with whom we have been trustfully cooperating for years, and who are subject to continuous tests.
Yes, they are. Please contact our event service. Our comptent team will be pleased to assist you.
